Item building is the key to win a game of Defense of the Ancients (or more commonly known as DOTA). The game itself takes time and practice to master, but the first thing you should master to improve your gampeplay is item building.
Abaddon is my personal favorite and is one of the most underrated heroes in the game. But as an avid fan of Warcraft I believe in Arthas' potential and the power of Frostmourne.
A former paladin of great renown, Abaddon fell into darkness during the invasion of the Burning Legion, becoming possessed by many demons, corrupting both his soul and his powers. Now a Death Knight set high in the Lich King's hierarchy of generals, he rides into battle against impossible odds, never stopping until he reaches the World Tree itself. Whether enhancing his own fortitude with a shield of dark energy, or using his life force to aid in combat, the Lord of Avernus leads the armies of the Scourge ever onward, forever locked in combat with the forces of good, and his enemies who were once his greatest comrades.
Abaddon releases a coil of death that can damage an enemy unit or heal a friendly unit at the cost of some of Abaddon's health.
Level 1 - Heals or Damages for 100 HP. Deals 50 HP to himself.
Level 2 - Heals or Damages for 150 HP. Deals 75 HP to himself.
Level 3 - Heals or Damages for 200 HP. Deals 100 HP to himself.
Level 4 - Heals or Damages for 250 HP. Deals 125 HP to himself.
Summons dark energies around an ally unit, creating a shield that absorbs a set amount of damage before expiring. When the shield is destroyed it will deal damage equal to the amount it absorbed to an area around it. Removes certain types of negative buffs on cast. Lasts for 15 seconds or until it bursts.
Level 1 - Absorbs and deals 110 damage.
Level 2 - Absorbs and deals 140 damage.
Level 3 - Absorbs and deals 170 damage.
Level 4 - Absorbs and deals 200 damage.
Abaddon strikes an enemy with Frostmourne's chilling power on each attack, causing all units who attack the slowed enemy to gain 15% increased movement speed, along with faster attack speed, for a limited time.
Level 1 - Slows enemies for 5%, gives +10% attack speed to allies.
Level 2 - Slows enemies for 10%, gives +20% attack speed to allies.
Level 3 - Slows enemies for 15%, gives +30% attack speed to allies.
Level 4 - Slows enemies for 20%, gives +40% attack speed to allies.
When activated, most negative buffs will be removed and any damage you take will heal you instead of damage you. If the ability is not in cooldown, it will passively activate when your hitpoints drop below 400 hp.
Level 1 - Lasts 3 (5*) seconds.
Level 2 - Lasts 4 (6*) seconds.
Level 3 - Lasts 5 (7*) seconds.
Shown to you above are Abaddons abilities and magics. If you go through the descriptions, you'll notice most of his skills are passive, and the only active or skills are the "Aphotic Shield" and "Death Coil".
The reason why only a few people main Abaddon, is because they fail to see the potential in the hero. Most, if not all view abaddon only as a tanker or support character. Although it's true that tanking is abaddon's main role. But people think he's not worth using because of his lack of spell casting abilities.
In this guide, I will show you that Abaddon is not only just good for support and tanking. I will teach you how to create the superior Abaddon. With Abaddon, I have created the ultimate tank and the ultimate killer in the game.
I came up with a powerful build that no other can stand against. I know no better build either than mine.
What I'm gonna teach you here is tried and tested. I'll explain all the "Whats, whys and the hows". . .
I will make this brief and short to make things more understandable as possible...

THE WHATs and the WHYs
Okay now let me explain why these items make the best Abaddon build. Ever heard of the word COMPLEMENT??? -Something that completes, makes up a whole, or brings to perfection.-
I use the concept of complementing in choosing items. I'll explain briefly one by one why these items are the best for Abaddon.
I choose items that would either complement the character's abilities, and main role in game.
As for Abaddon's abilities,.. they are more related to fortitude and life force manipulating
and enhancing rather than casting spells that inflict pure damage.
Frostmourne is Abaddon's main skill and it's magic takes effect through normal attacks. It is a passive skill but believe me, it is his most powerful weapon.
So now I presume you are already acquainted with this character. . . Here comes the part where I explain why these items "complement" Frostmourne and Abaddon's fortitude and life force enhancing abilities.
- The first item you should create is the power treads
Power Treads is an essential item for early game. Most players always build Power Treads as their first item.
In making the power treads, make sure you create the strength type power treads
-boots of speed
-gloves of haste and
-belt of giant strength
WHY POWER TREADS?
Power treads grants you additional moving speed and attack speed. And with the belt of giant strength recipe, you get an additional + 8 to your main attribute which is strength. ( Great for early game)...
- Right after the the Power Treads, try to build the Vanguard next
The Vanguard is a great item for Melee heroes and Tankers. -stout shield -vitality booster -ring of health
WHY VANGUARD?
The vanguard is an important item for melee characters. Especially for Abaddon. This item greatly improves Abaddon's tanking prowess because it prevents you from taking 100% damage and it increases your health points.
So we use the Vanguard because it "complements to Abaddon's main role in game as a tanker and also his fortitude and life force.
- With your enhanced attack rate because of the Power Treads, farming for the sange and yasha will be a breeze.
Now with the sufficient moving speed and armor (Power Treads & Vanguard) it is time to increase your damage or attack.
Requires:
-Yasha
-Sange
Why the Sange and Yasha?
Do you remember Frostmourne being Abaddon's main weapon?
Level 1 - Slows enemies for 5%, gives +10% attack speed to allies.
Level 2 - Slows enemies for 10%, gives +20% attack speed to allies.
Level 3 - Slows enemies for 15%, gives +30% attack speed to allies.
Level 4 - Slows enemies for 20%, gives +40% attack speed to allies.
Sange and Yasha totally "complements" with Frostmourne's effects as shown below...
Passive: Greater Maim
15% chance on attack to slow movement speed by 30% and attack speed by 30% for 4 seconds. Orb effect. So in addition to Frostmourne's slow effect of 20% and attack speed enhancements, Sange and Yasha grants you a 15% chance to slow enemies by 30% and at the same time increasing your attack speed by also 30% + the "MAIM" and "Blazing Fast" effect
All these effects stack with Frostmourne. The "Blazing Fast" effect from the yasha can also stack even when frostmourne is active. Abaddon beats even agility heroes attack speed during this state.
Now tell me if Sange and Yasha does not complement Frostmourne. . .
To even make Frostmourne more powerful we can add a stun effect to the weapon
- Now that you have the Yasha and Yasha plus Power Treads, farming for the Cranium Basher should not take long
Make two of these to increase stun chance by upto 50%
Requires:
Belt of Giant Strength
Javelin
Cranium Basher Recipe Scroll
Why Cranium Basher? The Cranium Basher grants 25% chance to stun enemies for 1.4 seconds. So if you make two Cranium Bashers the stun chance increases by 50%. Take note that the greater your attack speed is,the greater the chance for these effects to activate.
So why does the Cranium Basher "complements" Frostmourne? With the powerful effects of the Sange and Yasha which directly complements the nature of Frostmourne making it a very powerful weapon, with the (2) Cranium Bashers, you add a 50% stun effect to Frostmourne. This chance will even increase because of the increased attack rate you get from Sange and Yasha and Frostmourne. All three items Complement each other's effects making Frostmourne a very powerful weapon.
Passive: Greater Maim
15% chance on attack to slow movement speed by 30% and attack speed by 30% for 4 seconds. Orb effect.
Passive: Bash 25% chance for melee heroes (10% for ranged) to bash on attack. 1.4 seconds stun. 2 seconds cooldown. Doesn't function with other Cranium Bashers, Troll Warlord's Bash, Slithereen Guard's Bash, or Faceless Void's Time Lock.
- Now lets make Abaddon's attacking power even more superlative
Requires: -Plate Mail -Hyperstone
-Chainmail
Why Assault Cuirass? Here's why...
Gives: 35 Attack Speed
10 Armor
Passive: Attack Speed Aura
Adds 20 attack speed. 900 AoE Passive: Positive Armor Aura
Adds 5 armor. 900 AoE. Affects buildings. Doesn't stack with armor auras from Assault Cuirass, Ring of Basilius, or Vladmir's Offering.
Passive: Negative Armor Aura
Remove 5 armor to enemies. 900 AoE. Affects enemy buildings.
Assault Cuirass "complements" Abaddon's main role in game as a tanker because it gives you great armor plus a +5 positive armor aura and deals -5 negative armor to the enemy. Plus you get an attack speed of 35 and another + 20 to your attack speed aura.
The Assault Cuirass effects greatly improves Abaddon's fortitude and attack power. Because the Assault Cuirass increases your attack speed greatly, the chance of effects of S&Y, Cranium Basher, and Frostmourne is also increased greatly. In addition to attack speed, the positive aura and negative aura released from the Cuirass and the effects of the previews items make Abaddon almost unbeatable in 1on1 combat. With this build you can already kill a whole team. But were aren't done yet. Let's make Abaddon even more powerful!!!
- Last but not the least... Satanic
DID YOU KNOW THAT ABADDON MEANS "SATAN"?
Requires: -Helm of the Dominator -Messerschmidt's Reaver -Satanic Recipe Scroll
Why Satanic? Here's why...
Gives
25 Strength 20 Damage 5 Armor
Passive: Lifesteal 25% lifesteal on attacks. Orb effect. Active: Unholy Rage Adds 175% lifesteal. Lasts 3.5 seconds. 35 seconds cooldown.
Yeah plus +25 to your main atrrib which is strength + 5 armor and +20 damage but this is not what I'm talking about. Abaddon's abilities are more of fortitude enhancing and life force bending right? And the reason why the Satanic "complements" abaddons life force bending skills is because of the "life steal" and "unholy rage". Now Frostmourne has become the most powerful weapon the game. With its own effects that slows enemy movements speed by 20% and increase attack speed by 40% plus those of the Sange and Yasha 30% maim and slow and 30% blazing fast or attack speed enhancing effects. The double cranium basher which has a 50% chance stun. And with the Assault Cuirass complementing Abaddon's tanking fortitude and even greatly increasing the chance of the passive effects mentioned above. Plus the lifesteal effect and unholy aura of the Satanic, I dont think there is any one who can stand against this super Abaddon...
Abaddon will only leave ashes and misery in his destructive wake hahah... (a useful tip.. before "borrowed time activates", hit "unholy aura".. this will regenerate your HP)
Nothing beats this build. This I swear. Go try it for yourself. (I'll be making a guide for the invoker too) | |
